Houston's Oldest British Pub

Welcome to
THE RED LION HOUSTON

Deep in the heart of Houston lies a shining example of a tradition that is centuries old.

The British pub, as we know it, began its life as long ago as 43 AD, following the Roman invasion of the United Kingdom. Newly built Roman roads housed wine establishments called Tabernae (later known as taverns), which beckoned weary travelers. This tradition of stopping to drink and socialize evolved into alehouses and eventually public houses (pubs), providing a warm atmosphere for travelers and locals alike to meet, feast, and be merry!

The Red Lion is 100% British-owned and is proud to continue this age-old tradition of offering a comforting, warm welcome. Chef Juan has crafted a menu featuring classic British and American fare, along with some of his own creative dishes.

In true tradition, The Red Lion welcomes all manner of folk — whether locals or travelers alike. We greet deep thinkers and power drinkers, preachers, teachers, and mythical creatures, fakers, bakers, and undertakers, tailors, jailers, and passing sailors, barbers, farmers, and snake charmers, dancers, chancers, and sideways glancers, movie stars and men from Mars, truckers, pluckers, and clever folk, musicians, physicians, and those on missions (shh), watch checkers, two-steppers, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, candle lighters, writers, and firefighters, vicars, stickers, and daffodil pickers, cashiers, gondoliers, and happy tears!

We strictly enforce anti-prejudice policies at The Red Lion. We want everyone to smile! CHEERS!
